Scabby

Scabby was a neighborhood cat that we noticed having trouble one day and was hiding under a neighbor’s car. When approaching him to see if he was okay, we noticed a huge open infected wound on the side of his neck. We picked him up to keep him safe overnight until he can get to the vet the next day.

Scabby was an unaltered male who had apparently gotten into a fight with another cat. He had been bitten or scratched and has now become grossly infected.  There were maggots underneath a dead layer of skin where, prior to, an abscess had burst so he had been suffering with this for some time.

While Scabby was under anesthesia they cleaned and treated his wound so that the healing process could begin, he was neutered and tested where he was found to be FIV positive. We brought Scabby back to the rescue for his eight-week recovery and decided that the positive testing required him to stay at the rescue for the remainder of his life.

Scabby has since passed, but was loved for the years he lived with us and added memories we’ll never forget.
