Mocha
Mocha is one of more than fifty cats we care for at our Lantana colony. Arriving one night, as always, we do a head count to monitor all cats present, change out fresh water and prepare clean food dishes for each cat. Upon monitoring, we noticed that Mocha was drooling heavily and was also bleeding from her mouth.
We immediately ran home for our trapping equipment and began the process of trying to trap her. We spent many nights and several hours, but she was just not having any part of it. As I sat for hours in my car watching her and waiting to hit the remote for the trap, I was able to figure out what tricks I have that would work on her.
Finally, Mocha was trapped and able to immediately be examined by our vet. Mocha had so much swelling and inflammation in her mouth, along with pockets of blood under her tongue that the vet could not believe she was able to eat anything at all. Turns out that Mocha has an Immune disorder, as well as Stomatitis and has been causing her a great deal of pain for a long time.
In the first two years of treatment, Mocha would receive injections to help with the pain and bacteria. Once the injections were needed more frequently, surgery for full mouth extractions was recommended and performed. Mocha has done wonderful since the surgery and requires injections much less frequent.
Mocha has no trouble anymore with eating food and now lives happily forever at the sanctuary with her bestie Coco.
